El largo invicto del Leeds termina mientras se intensifica la lucha por el ascenso directo a la Premier League

Los líderes del Championship han dado esperanzas a los equipos que les persiguen.

Daniel Farke admitió que su Leeds había “desperdiciado oportunidades increíbles” en una derrota por 1-0 ante el Portsmouth, que puso fin a una racha de 17 partidos invictos en el Championship.

Joel Piroe falló dos claras ocasiones, Junior Firpo desaprovechó un mano a mano y golpeó el travesaño, mientras el portero del Pompey, Nicolas Schmid, se lució con una actuación digna de ser el hombre del partido.

Colby Bishop anotó el único gol del encuentro de forma implacable en el minuto 61, haciendo pagar al Leeds y dejándolos en lo más alto de la tabla del Championship solo por diferencia de goles.

El Leeds sintió que debió haber tenido un penalti temprano cuando Matt Ritchie golpeó las piernas de Dan James, pero solo podían culparse a sí mismos por su falta de puntería.

“I can’t complain about the performance but I know we can be more effective. It was one of those days where we created so many good chances but we couldn’t put any of them to bed," dijo Farke.

“We had three one on ones with the goalkeeper, we headed against the crossbar and Sam Byram forced a great save at the end, and we should have had a penalty.

“It was one of those days where one of our best finishers, Junior Firpo, missed unbelievable chances.

“We expected a tough away game as no team has won more points in 2025 in home games, so we knew it would be tight. They were able to be effective today and for that we have to say congratulations. They are able to celebrate today and we have to accept it.”

Las heroicidades de Schmid fueron clave para la victoria del Pompey. Su doble atajada para negar a Manor Solomon y luego a Piroe en la primera mitad se complementó con un mano a mano detenido a Firpo y una acrobática intervención al final para evitar el cabezazo de Byram.

El Pompey también tuvo sus oportunidades, con Josh Murphy golpeando el poste exterior y un potente disparo de Andre Dozzell que obligó a Ilian Meslier a desviar.

El momento decisivo llegó cuando Bishop aprovechó un pase de Connor Ogilvie por el canal izquierdo, superando a los centrales del Leeds, Joe Rodon y Pascal Struijk, antes de picar el balón sobre Meslier y anotar su sexto gol de la temporada contra el poste.

El entrenador del Pompey, John Mousinho, comentó: “Colby has been incredible since the first minute I walked into the building. When you take into account what he’s been through this season, it’s even better.

“It feels like the best game of the season. It was an important win after watching the results come in over the weekend.

“Everyone is buzzing we have won the game, but more importantly I think we deserved to win it. It was a really good performance.

“Every single player who was involved was excellent, I can’t pick out anyone who was under the standard.

“I think Leeds are a Premier League outfit with unbelievable players who have played some very good football this season, so to peg them back and come away with three points is amazing.

“We have spoken about the difficulties we cause sides at Fratton Park. Our home form has been absolutely brilliant, and if we had picked up some more points away from home we would be more comfortable.

“We won’t start to look up the table. We need to stay on top of ourselves.”
